Population and Demographics
The histogram presented below shows the distribution of perspectives on the critical issue of the community’s demographic mix. This was one of the issues identified in the Vision Edina Think Tank workshop as being important to the future of Edina. The population of the City is changing rapidly as new families move into the community and the resident population continues to age. This creates the need to balance the needs of younger new residents and those long-standing residents that wish to “age in place.”

- The distribution that is presented here shows modest support both for the existing population mix as well as one that is significantly more diverse along with a compromise position that supports some increased diversity.
- Support for more diversity is strongest among the younger respondents and lessens with age.
- Responses to this question are strongly correlated to preferences for residential and commercial development.
